A Southeastern Colorado Cattle Ranch Risk Simulation Scenario
The Oasis Ranch is a cow/calf operation located in southeastern Colorado’s Otero County. The ranch runs 800 mother beef cows on a combination of federal and privately deeded rangeland. Calves are typically born in March and sold in October. The ranch is currently experiencing some very dry weather and is considering the purchase of Rainfall Index Insurance as well as a number of different forage options to help address the current weather risks.
