EWS Farms is a cropping operation in
northeastern Colorado growing dryland wheat, dryland corn, and
irrigated corn. Dryland crops are grown in a three year rotation
(wheat-corn-fallow) on 2100 acres. The farm also has 500
irrigated acres under center pivots on which they grow irrigated
corn. In marketing their crops each year, the farm considers the
following alternatives: cash sales delivered at harvest, forward
contracting sales delivered at harvest, and hedging
opportunities.
